What exactly is Zionism?
In the bible is Zion referred to as Israel?
And what about some Jewish groups that do not believe in Zionism? Where do they stand?
Also what about some Jewish groups that do not believe that Israel is the true nation of God?
I ask these questions because there is a very strict group here in my city called Lev Tahore. They do not believe in Israel being the nation of God. They burn the Israeli flag. They do not believe in Zionism. They believe that they are the true spiritual Israel.

What exactly is Zionism? In the bible is Zion referred to as Israel? Generally it is the movement started by Theodore Herzl in the late 19th cen. which advocated the return of the Jewish people to then Palestine and establishment of the Israeli state. They bought land in Palestine, helped Jews to settle it, and lobbied for the creation of a Jewish homeland. Today Zionists support Israel and advocate for all Jews to make aliyah. Sounds like the Jewish version of replacement theology. Maybe insane Jews? Dan C

Hi Alon.
Thank you for answering the question as to what Zionism is.
My other question was in the bible where Zion is mentioned, is this referring to Israel?
You stated, "Sounds like the Jewish version of replacement theology. Maybe insane Jews?"
This is not the type of answer that I am looking for. I was hoping to stay away from bashing other Jewish groups.
My other two questions are these.
And what about some Jewish groups that do not believe in Zionism? Where do they stand?
Also what about some Jewish groups that do not believe that Israel is the true nation of God?

My other question was in the bible where Zion is mentioned, is this referring to Israel? It generally refers to Jerusalem, or specifically to Mt. Zion which is in Jerusalem. Sorry. Didn't mean to bash anyone, just my sense of humor. Better answer: I don't know. The questions are pretty broad, and would require someone with considerable knowledge of Jewish sects to even discuss it. As to the beliefs of your local groups, perhaps you could find someone there who is willing to discuss it. Or try your local library. You never know, but they could have reference books on these groups due to local interest. When I was a child, we lived outside Las Vegas, NM right next to a Penetente church. Penetentes were an offshoot of the Roman Catholic Church mixed with the local pagan religions. Pretty obscure, but my mom went to the small local library there and sure enough, they had a couple of books on the group. So it might be worth your time to check. Sometimes too librarians can suggest other places to find information. Dan C
