Actually, a good Christian should be doing most of the mitzvoth that apply to us any how. So mostly the moedim, including Shabbat, dietary laws and tzitzyot, a mezuzah and that pretty much covers it (at least what my sleep deprived brain can think on right now). Oh, and tevilah (total immersion baptism). Anything else you can think of? Dan C Does questor not mean, what is their doctrine? I believe keeps the denominations so many is the clear lack of adherance to the law. The abandonment of Shabbat and many other fundamentals Yeshua preached is like building their houses on the sand. I watched an epidode of enterprise recently and one of the characters referred to someone speaking unsoundly(unjustly) as "speaking shale". I thought this a wonderful allegory for the mainc. The bolded part is unclear; maybe you could explain what you mean. But yes, I think that is the gist of what Q is saying. I'm just saying that the part of their doctrine is that it wouldn't take that much more for them to come into doctrinal compliance with The Almighty! Think about it; for those who are TO, was it really all that much more to do to get to TO? Just talking about the basics here, what is actually in . And the traditions we add later are a joy to explore; to study and implement in ways that have genuine meaning for us.
Another thing to think about is if we did have to add that much to become TO, we needed to change our ways regardless whether Christian or Messianic! And I include myself in that group- change is/was good/necessary; difficult then and now, and a work in progress.
In Yeshua's day, there were two outstanding rabbi's for the ages: Rav Hillel and Rav Shamai. It is thought that Yeshua studied with Rav Hillel. Rav Hillel was a pacifist, concentrating on the love of YHVH. You are a good (if somewhat extreme) example of a Hillelite.
Rav Shammai was a strict adherent of the justice and righteousness of YHVH. "The law was forgotten in Israel until Hillel the Babylonian came up and reestablished it" (b. Sukkah 20a; Pes. 66a)." (And before anyone asks and embarrasses me, no, I don't know why he is called "Hillel the Babylonian"; although I could probably guess. Might be a good search project if I ever get the time and inclination simultaneously ... ) He was quietly passionate for and truth. I would (except for the quiet part- we all have our cross to bear) be a somewhat extreme Shammaimite. Yeshua did show some Shammaimite qualities and leanings- His position on divorce (very strict, Mat 19) and His cleansing the Temple (Mark 11:15-19) being two good examples.
So from this I would think we could make a d'rash: we need both types of people, though the world is in sore need of more Shammaimites! Do we need extremists? Again, a few more from the House of Shammai would be good. However an alternate view would be that of the old cowboy who replied, when told "It takes all kinds to make up the world!": "Nah, it don' take all kinds; we just got all kinds!"
Shalom.
Dan C
edit: the point is that we all need to change, some more than others. But we need a template, an example to follow and good reason to change. Change for the sake of change is an invitation to ha satan. Change according to is God's invitation to us.

After eliminating the commandments that relate to the Temple, the Cohanim, and the civil law of the Israelites...what commandments are those that need to be kept by the Gentiles in order to have their souls prosper? 3 John 1:2-4 (NKJV) 2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. 3 For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
Prosperity and health follow on my soul prospering, which it cannot help but do so the more time and energy I spend focusing on my Beloved.
Psalm 37:3-4 (CJB) 3 Trust in Adonai, and do good; settle in the land, and feed on faithfulness. 4 Then you will delight yourself in Adonai, and he will give you your heart’s desire.

Shalom! Both the TeNaKah and the Brit Chadashah have examples where a person sought to be healed. In each case, a "righteous" person was the instrument Adonai used. There were different cases when Yeshua healed a person. A person may call out to Yeshua, a person was brought to Yeshua, (the faith of those who carried their lame friend) and in (Mark 8:22-25), the people of Beit-Tzaidah (Bethsaida) brought a blind man to Yeshua and begged Him to touch him. This man had Yeshua spit in his eyes and lay His hands on him, only to partially heal him. Yeshua lays His hands on him again to complete his healing. Why two times? possibly because this man did not come to Yeshua but was brought to Him. (I know he was blind and this could have posed a problem) As the man noticed his healing was happening, Yeshua sees the man's slowness and lays His hands a second time, I believe his faith grew by leaps. Also in (Matt 13:58) It says: And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief. I don't think this was a matter of faith in Yeshua's ability to perform miracles of healing, just that they did not believe their "familiar resident" was anyone special, let alone the Messiah who could do many things. And lets not forget the woman who took hold of Yeshua's Tzitzit, (A righteous person) and was healed after 12 years. (Luke 8:43-48) Micha'el

Healing of anyone it seems has a lot more to do with the purpose of the problem that one needs to get healed.
Of late, I have noticed that I have yet moved from one place in my health, and achieved another better one, Baruch haShem. But in looking back with the Ruach in contemplation of when I started this thread, back on February 28, 2014, I can see that those things not yet fixed in my body, mind and soul, that I still want healed are on their way to me.
Abba, even in the healing He has given me, has carefully looked to only give me so much healing as I can accept and maintain, since my healing is being accompanied by a change of how I run my entire life, and as to whether I would maintain that health, once given. Abba is changing the structure of my days towards a goal I do not see as yet, though I recognize the re-structuring being done.
Jews formulate the pattern of the week around Shabbat, and of the Feast days. I am being shaped to that pattern, it is true, and I am pleased to be so manuevered by the Ruach to get my life in alignment with Observant Messianic Jews that I do not know or meet with.
I do see, however, that everything that the Ruach is leading me to do enhances a certain way of living...sleeping, eating, studying, writing, micro-farming, and fellowshiping with other Believers, and with Abba.
When I cried out in exasperation last February, I was in extreme pain, confusion, and heaviness, not just for my own health problems, but for those people I care for around the globe that are in dire need of healing themselves. One has died, another diagnosed with all manner of ill, while everyone I know is suffering from the disintegration of this world and this body that we inhabit, particularly since we are all in our late 50's/early 60's.
We are reaping a lot of what we have sown, and some of that sowing has it's own harvest. But there is one thing I see in our ill health, besides the consequences of an ill spent life, is Abba using the need for healing to draw me ever further into being changed. And since I have embraced the changes, and asked for more healing and more change...whatever it takes to become the person I am supposed to be, and to be in health, I have to assume that a lot of how slowly I have been healed was a consequence of my inability or even refusal to hold onto that healing by changing to promote the healing, rather than being solely an inability of faith.
This is very interesting and comforting too, for me, and for all those who are ill. The healing is done in Yehoshua. We have to ask for it, and have a full expectation of receiving it, but we also have to ask to be changed to ensure that the gift of new health is not squandered. And when we can receive health is not so much a decision by G-d to delay for any reason but our inadequate fostering of the health we are begging for, and a terrible inability to use the healing for what is good.

Healing is done to glorify YHVH. Rav S has said more than once that he will not allow just anyone to lay hands on him. We never know what is taking place spiritually when someone without the gift of healing lays hand on us to pray. And here in the US where we have the Word so openly available to us, we do not really need healings as a witness. Few here have even the shadow of the gift of healing. Prayer works, and miracles have happened. However I don't really see the kinds of wholesale healings that occurred in the Bible.
I still attend a Pentecostal church with my wife. I've heard of such healing services, but like all such things it is always second hand. They got it from someone who was there. But my bet is if you could talk to that person, they too "got it from someone who was there." I've also witnessed fake healings, always very dramatic and only an idiot would believe it. But, idiots exist, and so do desperate people. I'd like to "lay hands" on those who exploit those people myself ...
Bottom line, Elohim is not glorified here when healings occur. They are chalked up to some breakthrough in modern medicine, or just ignored as irrelevant by a jaded populace. I don't pray for healing so much as just some relief, for me and others I know who go through hell here on earth! And sometimes He does hear my prayers and grant that relief, to others and even to me.

Dan C
G-d is able to be glorified, even in the US! And even in my healing, a little here, a little there, until you see the pattern the healing has made.
My healing is not finished, but when it is, it will be a big thing, because there are people who knew me as I was when I broke my neck, and got brain damage, and got sicker for years until I learned enough to start asking to be changed, and also asking to be healed; to read, and understand, and believe that oil and a hand of a friend was necessary, because it was an act done in faith! There are those people I know who go to the churches that I cannot bear to attend, and they will still allow me to witness that there is healing, once I know how it is being done in me, and when it is plainly evident. I can still speak Christianese when I have to, and I will speak it if it will help them understand me.
And when I speak of my healing I will also speak of Obedience...not for righteousness, but for the blessing that God is willing to give to those who obey Him, not because they earn it, but because they love Him, and try to show it. God is glorified every time someone that hasn't seen me for a mere two or three days notices a change for the better, and is suddenly stunned by what has happened to me.
God is glorified everytime I write here, and elsewhere that I have gotten progress, despite getting older day by day, and not being worthy of the blessings I receive in the righteousness of Yehoshua.
Yes, medicine has progressed, and yet it was still 'accident', not a doctor's analysis, that I found I had a life long genetic problem that could be helped! It's not curable, but if I do not eat what triggers the problem, I can get well. I did not enable me to do the things that led to the beginning of the cure of what was wrong with me 3 1/2 years before I found out the cause of my problems, and could double down on what the Holy Spirit had shown me, led me to know, and understand so that I could take another step in faith, and thus G-d could heal me a little more.
I know how much God has had to change me to even see what He is doing in me, even as I pray, and get more changed, and more healed.
I have witnesses. I have medical records.
Is everything I have recovered from miraculous? No. I have a body that still knows what to do with the right elements if given them. I have a will that can get me from the bed to the chair, and then to stand outside. But everything else has not happened because I am strong or able or brilliant or lucky.
Everything that has happened has happened because I was weak, and then broken, and then changed, and then healed, a little here, and a little there, even as my faith prospered, and I took a step forward in belief, and then praised and thanked G-d.
It is far from being done, nor will this 59 year old body ever get back to the way it was when I was 40, and shot forward in my car into a drainage ditch, where I could not be seen, or helped for hours, wondering whether the car was going to catch fire, and I was going to be burned alive, nor the PTSD that still plagues me from it, and why I dread having to leave the house, and get in my car. I will not have the career I lost, or the spouse I lost, nor the Mom that I could not help in her cancer years because she was diagnosed a mere four days after I came home in a neck brace; nor the Dad who couldn't bear the consequences, nor the brother who still will not see either G-d, or even me as real and valuable, because he is still caught in the past.
I am walking evidence that G-d still heals...and I am walking every day a little better, in the Word, and in the physical.
Will my healing glorify G-d? It already does, and will continue to.
BARUCH HASHEM!!!

Try to read what you so boldly pointed out as all I said, in context. Obviously I was speaking of major miraculous healing events.
As for those people you think will glorify God when you are healed:
* Most will say it was time or the minerals.
* The Christians will pay lip service, but they won't really believe it was God. For one thing you are not one of "them". For another, the vast majority don't really believe anyhow.
* Some may even say that they prayed to some pagan god for you and that is the reason. Weirdness and cults are so rampant in this country that it is hard to imagine that you have no acquaintances who aren't into some form of idolatry.
They all, like you and me have the Word and in abundance. That is how Elohim is glorified here. And true, to those who truly believe His Word He is glorified every time you get a little better. But if they won't believe His Word, they won't credit your little triumphs, or even big ones over any period of time, to God.

Sorry, Alon...I didn't catch that part about only being big miracles that you were talking about.
To me, any healing is a big miracle...each time Abba has me take two steps forward without taking one or more back is a big deal.
And it is true that there are not many large, fantastic miracles done in front of large groups, but I have met two people that were healed from inoperable brain tumors, and another whose son went from dying from pneumonia one day to running in the street the next. The miracles happen, and they glorify G-d, but not in a big way very often, it is true. On the other hand, all three people became faithful followers of Yehoshua, so that was glorious, and glorifying to G-d, and they have often told others how they were changed by what happened.
Even if I were to go witnessing about my healing, and the fantastic difference G-d has made in my health, not to mention my life and character, it is probably true that only one or two might hear me, and have it make a difference. To me, that is enough.
Yehoshua's healings didn't make big changes in the all the people around them, only in them personally, and I am sure that although the miracles were remembered, it did not make big differences in anyone's life outside the one healed, and their immediate family. After Yehoshua died, and when the Apostles were gone, there were very few that ever had faith enough for healing others, and rarely for asking to be healed themselves.
If we had faith and asked in faith, being anointed with oil by Elders who truly believed Abba would do as He said, and we were expecting the promises to be carried out, perhaps there would be more healings of the size and caliber that would make a big splash in the headlines, so to speak. Until the pattern of how to get healed, and how to lean on G-d in understanding is taught, people will not be healed, and even when it is taught, how many people will take the necessary steps of faith, and then hang on to the promise in the face of constant disbelief? Yehoshua did not do many miracles where people were in unbelief, so we should not be surprised.
Yehoshua Himself does not expect to find much faith when He returns, so again we should not be surprised.
Still, there is healing, and G-d is glorified even in this pagan nation, and I thank YHVH for even such small mercies, for those that are healed are at least walking in Thanksgiving, and giving G-d glory, and influencing someone here and there to trust G-d. May it always be so, no matter how bad this world gets.

Oh, I agree that miracles do happen, both big and (for lack of a better word) small. And that some, as you pointed out, result in the salvation of the individual is the greatest miracle of all! It is the whole purpose of miracles! They witness to us about a mighty Elohim! They may attest to the fact that a particular person is sent from Elohim. But they always glorify God, or they are not done. They are done when needed, not just as miracles on demand. We here in the West have the Word, and have it abundantly. That kind of witness such as healings are not as needed here as on the mission field.
I sometimes think we put too much on God that He never promised with our demands, especially for things like healings. Sure, we pray for the sick and they get well, either miraculously (big "M") or miraculously (small "m"). But our society as a whole is jaded and brainwashed, and it is all too easy for even many "Christians" to give the credit elsewhere- which they quite happily tend to do. This is what I mean by its' not glorifying God.
Two sides to the equation, and both will always be in balance (definition of an equation); Elohim does = we perceive + we give credit to Elohim. Skew our perception, or if we give credit elsewhere (and He knows what is in our hearts to believe and do), and the other side of the equation changes to "God don't".
Dan C
Edit: and no, I don't know how to write an algorithm factoring in the "need" variable, so just go with the simple equation and if your need is that great, sign up for math classes at your local community college at night!

2 Cor 5: 17 (ESV) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Not a scripture you’d usually expect to use in the context of this topic, but let’s consider it for a minute:
When saved, we are transformed in an instant from being of this world to being children of El Roi (Gen 16:13), the God Who Sees Me, who sees my affliction. But we also know salvation is an ongoing process. We learn, we are tested, and so the great dichotomy where we are changed in an instant yet also over time.
I just met a friend whose wife was miraculously healed, so I know 1st hand in this case it is true. But it took years of pain and suffering; and yes treatment after treatment. But suddenly things came together and she was healed. Did the Doctors do their part? Yes. But did they accomplish the healing- let me put it this way. The best doctors in the best medical facilities in the world cannot heal. They can only give you the best chance to heal within the scope of their limited abilities.
There was also an undeniably supernatural component to her healing as well. But El Chaiyai (Pslm 42:8), the God Of My Life, heals. Not doctors. In fact, my experience is if you go to doctors long enough they will absolutely destroy you. They did me. They were THE single greatest driving force behind Nazi Germany, and the atrocities committed in this country in the 1930’s as well. Man will let you down, El Channun, the Gracious God of Jonah 4:2 will not.
It is not for us to tell El Tsaddik (Isaiah 45:21), the Righteous God when or even if we will be healed. My friend's wife may have been healed as a witness to me, and now you that yes, we do serve El Haggadol (Deu 10:17) the Great God; El Rachun (Deu 4:31) the God of Compassion.
But if He so chooses, He may not heal at all, in which case He is still Elohim; El Sali (pslm 42:9) the God of My Strength and El Erekh Apayim avi HaTanchumim, the God of All Patience and Consolation (Rom 15:5).
1Co 6:20 (KJV) For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
Our lives are His to command, to direct, and to choose. He paid a high price for us, and we entered into this covenant with El Emet (Pslm 31:5), the God of Truth Who never lied to us about what we were signing onto. But He is also El Hanne’eman, the Faithful God of Deu 7:9. He will stand by us, and never give us more than we can bear (1 Cor 10:13).
Whenever I feel I can no longer bear the pain or infirmities, I do cry out to God. But at the end and in the end, I always affirm that He is still El Echad, the One God, the Only God of Mal 2:10 and of my life.
Baruch HaShem!

With Yehoshua's death and resurrection, and our personal declaration that we believe and trust in the redemption He made for us by the sacrifice of His blood, and claim that redemption in Yehoshua, we are both Judicially, and Spiritually turned into another creature, that being still tied to the human body that we are in, makes that change very slowly in us after the natural state of man.
Abba sees us as the finished creature that Yehoshua's act as Kinsman Redeemer has accomplished in us, but Abba stands outside of time, and for Him the efforts and pains of our freewill existence on the human plane within our universe happen within a very short amount of time. Yet in that short amount of time, G-d is watching over us, moment by moment to help, and to instruct, and to comfort and to heal through the Ruach haKodesh, giving blessing after blessing as we are in obedience and faith in His promises.
Trusting G-d to keep His promises to us who are fully righteous in His sight is not quickly learned, and is easier for the very young, and the very simple. Technology and knowledge of how our body works actually can get in the way of a full and complete healing at the first time of asking. But most such healing will simply put the untrained Believer back into his disobedience, and right back out of the healing he has asked for if his character cannot support it.
For myself, knowing who I am, were I immediately healed in the supernatural way that does happen when someone's faith is enough for a supernatural, instantaneous healing, I am positive I would be led from the attempted G-dly life that I practice back into the world, and thus be very easily able to be led astray.
It is not G-d that is holding up my healing being full and complete, but myself, and my lack of faith, and my long training in lawlessness and rebellion. Thus, in my life, Abba is very cautious not to give me more healing than I can put to right use, and not more than my still untransformed character can handle.
As my life, and my mind, and my soul is more and more structured to God's desired way for me to live and be, the more healing I am given in addition to the natural ability to heal that Abba gives us all.
My healing is not merely making my body well, but my life patterns and goals, and my personal walk with Yehohsua are also being transformed. Were I disciplined, and obedient, and able to live a well structured life in mind, soul and body, I would already show a perfect, supernatural healing.

Don't beat yourself up over not being healed. It probably is not your fault. Sometimes God just says He IS God and this is how He decreed things to be. Did Elohim waffle and pass the buck when He allowed the destruction of Job's life, his health, and even allowed his friends to accuse him of sin because of all this pain and loss? No. He is God and He can just declare that we will be sick! This is the covenant you made when you accepted His offer of salvation, that He is Lord of your life. So don't berate yourself for things you may have no control over. And don't look for the magic spiritual pill to heal yourself. He may be having you work through your healing so you can help others, like me to find the right things so that we may be healed- healed as He intended from the Garden when plants had nutrition, not chemicals. Stay the course, you are probably right where you are called to be.

[/font] There is no magical spiritual pill for any of us, and although I get impatient at the rate of my healing, I know that much has to be changed in me as I live my live to support that healing. Good habits alone will do wonders, when I figure out how to perform them within in the haze of meds and a lack of time awareness left over from the accident.
Mostly I see that it is not being impatient for what Abba will do in His own time, and stepping out in faith in response to the leadings of the Ruach. Again, if there were absolute regenerative healing of me just at this time, I have my doubts that I would be able to continue the character building traits that Abba wants me to acquire, and indeed, have begun to acquire. Building patience and endurance is no bad matter, and being healed from faith to faith is what I confidently expect. The harder I lean on Abba, and expect, with the simple trust of a child, that my Daddy will do what He promised, the more I get healed.[/p][/p]
As for the young and simple, they exist in a lot of non-technologically advanced portions of our society. It is they, with their faith and trust in the promises given, and with the help of the Ruach, can not only be healed themselves, but heal others of like mind.
Our problem is our lack of simplicity in our beliefs and trust that get in our way...we rationalize healing away.
