Today at one of the thrift stores I found a book called "Messianic Daily Devotional" by Kevin Geoffrey. Anyone familiar with this book or author?
Also it states that they use the Young's Literal Translation of the Holy Bible (1862/1898) by J.N Young. Anyone familiar with this translation?

I use the Young's Literal Translation online. It's good for getting a different, ... well, more "literal" perspective on what is written; but I wouldn't recommend it as a primary scriptural source. Literal translations can be difficult to read, and in the end are still just another translation. If you're interested, PM me and I'll give you a link where you can read it online (that should be ok as it's just a reference source ...). You can probably get it quicker doing a search.
Don't know about the other book.

I often refer to YLT. It is nice for a different perspective on a verse. It is available free with eSword. If you are not using eSword, you are missing a gold mine free for the download. Wonderful tool.

Wonderful tool. I downloaded it, and have been trying to use it for the last few hours (on and off). So far, all I can get is KJV and KJV+. About the only thing useful I've gotten so far is the Strong's references when using the KJV+. But then, I'm not particularly computer proficient ... Dan  C |

Thank you gentlemen for the input. I haven't started reading the devotional yet. Someone had stated that it was good encouragement. I guess I won't know that until I start reading it.

I downloaded it, and have been trying to use it for the last few hours (on and off). So far, all I can get is KJV and KJV+. About the only thing useful I've gotten so far is the Strong's references when using the KJV+. But then, I'm not particularly computer proficient ... The YLT is an additional download from eSword after you install. I am sympathetic to the difficulty of using computers. You should not need a Master's degree in Computer Science to use a computer.  I have a Master's degree in Computer Science and I still have problems with a computer.  |

Moriah Ruth We (my wife and I and two young men who are staying with us) are almost through the devotional, we read two consecutive chapter from the bible (almost) every night and one devotional every time. The devotional has been great, this last week I ordered the other two books by K. Geoffrey, the modem, and the  devotional which we will start in the next couple of days... It has been a good way to end the day.. But if the evening is the beginning of the day then it is a good beginning... And. The evening and the morning was the first day. |

An interesting point! I too find the evening far more conducive to reading scripture and praying...it is nice to know that I'm starting early in the 'Day', since every time I try to put a time aside for my devotions in the morning, I get blindsided by the events of the day. I don't have trouble talking to YHVH at any time, nor living in verbal thankfulness, but focusing on specific prayers is difficult with the stampede of life.

Hi Dave, Yes I just started reading the devotional last Saturday. With reading just the one I find it is good and encouraging and makes one think. I did see that Geoffrey also has a devotional one. And the translation he uses which is the Young's Literal translation is okay. Donna |

For me to read devotionals or the bible in the evening does not work for me. Why? Because I end up nodding through what I am reading. I read a few sentences and than goes my head bobbing side to side. Dreaming of something else that I did not read. I shake myself awake only to read a few more words and off to  land I go. I do a chapter in Psalms before going to bed though. Most times because my day has been so busy that when I finally stop my body from moving it just goes into relax sleep mode. My best time for reading and praying is early in the morning when it is so quiet. The neighbors are still sleeping and there is no traffic sounds. It is just quiet with birds chirping in the background. I find the wee hours are very quiet and peaceful for me. Also I focus better and my mind is not set on what I am going to do that day. I am more receptive at the early hours. And yes I am also a morning person. Give me an hour and then I will be singing with the birds. Moriah Ruth |
