I went to a Hebrew class tonight. A rabbi comes to a neighboring town and teaches it. Who knew there'd be any interest in Hebrew in the center of rural Washington? It was great! I was a little lost until the rabbi told us to write out the entire aleph bet from memory. Then I was a lot lost! I attended a conference in Moses Lake about a year ago though, and I learned there are several partnerships with Israel in this area. I'm always amazed at how God works. Dan C

Shalom Dan, Good to hear you were able to attend a Hebrew class. Too bad you got overwhelmed when it came to the Alefbet. Below is a link to some flash cards to practice your alefbet. www.synagoguechm.com/chmflashcardsweb.pdfMicha'el

The Rabbi had us read them from a sheet he gave each of us, and I did pretty well. Then he had us turn it over and write it from memory. I told him if it was all he same to him, I'd just take an "F" on this assignment and take the sheet home and study it! He was good with that. Dan C

Funny! Take an "F" I was not as bold when I was getting started either. Two years later I am little bolder.

Bold? More like desperate! I've invented a series of hand/finger configurations that imitate the shape of the letters, and they sort of flow. It helps, but then I forget what to call it! (... pey, fey, feysofit, uhhhhh, *makes 2 finger sign, then drops to elongate* whatever, whatever sofit, kuf ...) Ah well. I was just visiting, so they took pity. Dan C

Went back tonight- was pretty proud I could stumble through the alephbet- now we're on vowel points, and the rabbi says next Wednesday we're going to be reading the Bible! I stumble a lot when I speak as well, but so does everyone else. I seem to be hung up on Pimsleur Unit 6 or I'd do better there. Yoteo meochar yitachen. Ah well, don't lern if ya don't try. Dan C

Good for you Dan! The vowel points are helpful. Just remeber these main sound points for the various vowels: "u" or "oo" "o" "ee" "e" "ei" or "ey" "ah" "aw" Micha'el

@ Alon: are you referring to the alphabet and numbers that confuses you?

@ Alon: are you referring to the alphabet and numbers that confuses you? No, it's those dots and small lines they spread around their letters so you have to say them differently. I suppose "a, e, I, o, u and so-o-omtimes y and w" is foolish to them. ... Actually the "w" is foolish to me- when is "w" ever a vowel? But I digress ... It's just that the learning curve is steeper for some. Mine, some days if you placed a marble on it, it wouldn't roll. Dan (oy vey) C

I knew that would throw you a curve ball like it does me. I know how you feel!!!! I do , I do, I do!!! wahhhh!!! But if you look at the alphabet and you can easily fill in the (a e i o and u's) in... It makes so much easier to read. But it does take time, Trust me , I know. guess what word this is? דיךצ

[/img] not so fast!!!! Okay its shalom!
Now wait just a ... are you messin' with me? How can "shalom" start with a dalet? Shalom would be: - sheen (teeth with a dot to the upper right and a little T underneath)
- lamed (shepherd's crook with a really short handle)
- vav (peg with a dot above it- or just the dot, no peg)
- mem sophit (box to keep all that peace in)
